The 2022 FIFA World Cup is set to kick off in Qatar in less than 10 days with a grand and spectacular opening ceremony scheduled for November 20 at 7:00 PM IST.
A total of 32 teams participates in the tournament.
Interestingly, this is the first FIFA World Cup to be hosted in the Middle East and the Arab world and only the second to be hosted on the Asian continent.
Remarkably, Qatar will host the most compact version of the tournament in modern history. All eight stadiums are located within a 50km radius of central Doha while fans, players and officials will be entertained throughout the event, culminating in the final at the 80,000-seat Lusail Stadium during the National Day of Qatar on December 18.
Speaking of the schedule, the group stage matches of the FIFA World Cup 2022 will last until December 2, when 16 of the 32 teams make their way to the round of 16. The matches of the round of 16 are scheduled from 3 to 6 December, with the quarterfinals on 9 and 10 December.
The semi-finals, with a lot at stake, will take place on 13 and 14 December, with the final attracting billions of spectators on 18 December, the day after the play-off for third place.
FIFA World Cup squads
All 32 participating teams must submit their respective squads of 26 players through November 14, after which FIFA will officially announce those squads on November 15.
