The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce the replacement of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah due to his injury for the upcoming season of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on October 9, Sunday. The International Cricket Council (ICC) set a final date to make any changes in the squads announced earlier prior to the mega event in Australia ends today.

Indian squad submissions were due on September 15, and the BCCI announced the 15-member squad along with four reserve players on September 12th. Out of those 15 players selected for the main squad, only Jasprit Bumrah ended up missing the entire tournament due to back injury.

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah who had been out of action since July 14 made his comeback on September 23 against Australia in Nagpur, but after playing two matches he again suffered an injury that prevents him from playing in the T20 World Cup. As a result, India will select a new pacer and senior fast-bowler Mohammed Shami is leading the race, while Deepak Chahar and Mohammed Siraj are also in the running. Aside from Shami and Chahar, Siraj's name has also been circulating due to his experience playing in Australia.

Prior to making any decisions on the replacement, BCCI would like to know about the fitness updates of the probable candidates. In Insidesport, the report states that both leading contenders, Shami and Chahar, are experiencing health concerns and will appear for a fitness test at the National Cricket Academy on Sunday (October 9), after which selectors will decide who to replace Bumrah.

According to ICC guidelines, participating teams can make changes to their squads until October 9, even if none of their players are injured. Any changes made after the deadline would have to be approved by the ICC. A committee will have to approve the same.

The ICC deadlines ends, and soon BCCI likely to name Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement. Mohammad Shami and Deepak Chahar are currently at the NCA for the fitness test. Shami is slated for fitness test this week after a spell of Covid-19 and Chahar will continue the fitness test but currently advised to take a rest. Both of them and other standbys will travel to Australia on October 12.
