India beat New Zealand by 65 runs at the Bay Oval on Sunday, kicking off the post-World Cup transition phase with an all-out effort. The form of Suryakumar Yadav, who produced a stunning all-court innings of hitting en route to a stunning unbeaten century - his second of his T20I career - hasn't changed despite India's efforts to revive their T20I blueprint. Despite a hat-trick in the final over by Tim Southee, he was still unbeaten on 111 and his blitz was the only reason India reached a tough 191/6 in 20 overs.
New Zealand lost Finn Allen to a duck in the opener and never fully recovered. Before spinners applied compression in the middle overs, regular strikes kept them on their back foot and built up the pressure. Kane Williamson managed to hold a side to a valiant half-century, but the pace that was delivered would not have been favorable, especially when the big designated batsmen were in trouble. They were eventually discharged for 125, with Deepak Hooda taking 4/10, three of which were in a single over. The third and final T20I will be played on Tuesday.
