Prior to the World Cup, India will compete in a tri-series in South Africa on February.
Shikha Pandey, an experienced medium-pacer, made a comeback after being named in the 15-member squad for the Women's T20 World Cup to be taken in South Africa in February. For nearly 14 months, she had been tormented by her exclusion from the India squad.
Shikha was not selected for the five-match T20I series against Australia despite having a good season playing for Goa and then being a part of India D that won the Challengers Trophy, which sparked hopes of a comeback.
Renuka Thakur's pace attack against Australia, which won the series 4-1 in Mumbai after spearhead Jhulan Goswami retired, appeared unimpressive. Shikha last played in a T20I in Australia in October 2021, and she was unexpectedly dropped before the 2022 ODI World Cup in New Zealand.
In Shikha's absence, the selection committee placed their trust in the medium-pacers Meghna Singh, Renuka Thakur, and Pooja Vastrakar; however, for a major competition like the World Cup, it appears that the Goa captain's experience was taken into consideration.
Pooja Vastrakar, who missed the series against Australia, was added pending proof of her fitness. Anjali Sarvani, a left-arm medium-pacer, replaced Meghna Singh, a seamer who played in two Australia T20 Internationals but failed to claim a wicket.
In Cape Town on February 12, India, who finished second in the previous competition, will face Pakistan. The competition will happen from February 10 to February 26.
The BCCI also revealed the lineup for a tri-series that will begin on January 19 and take place in South Africa in preparation for the World Cup. In the tri-series, India will play the hosts, South Africa, and the West Indies. At Buffalo Park in East London, the tournament will begin with India taking on South Africa.
Since Richa Ghosh will be competing in the U-19 Women's World Cup, which will be held in South Africa next month, Sushma Verma of Himachal Pradesh has made a comeback in that squad. Shafali Verma, the junior Cup team's captain, won't enter the game until after the tri-series.
Sneh Rana, an all-around player who did not make the World Cup squad, will play in the Tri-series.
In both competitions, Smriti Mandhana will serve as Harmanpreet Kaur's assistant.
